t0w prevent creating plastic waste, particularly, high volumes of ongoing streams of waste packaging including its hazardous residues which not only cause tremendous ecological pollution but also a detrimental effect on our Health and harmful Emissions. It is more sustainable to prevent creating waste rather than reducing waste & recycling, depending on strategy and impact.
Whilst preventing waste the objective is to enhance industrial Operations, create multi disciplinary benefits and integrated business opportunities rather than impose restrictions.
The development and introduction of waste-prevention methodologies, strategies, processes and system tools.
Identification, Design and Development of new entrepreneurs business such as eco-design, local industrial clusters, and resource exchange exportable into other European and worldwide contexts shall represent the main focus of this action.
t0w main objectives are to develop an
1.global, adaptable, structured, innovative clean technologies, production model;
2.suitable for customisation for resource-use optimisation and waste prevention, exceeding expectations of this Activity by introducing for the first time, zero waste residues systems
3.alongside zero waste packaging;
4.targeting more than one industry
5.multiple products that are harmful to the environment and our health, but not exclusive to a specific sector
t0w main outcomes and benefits of these ‘cross cutting’ technologies are:
(a)conservation of resources;
(b)greater and speedier ecological pollution reduction/prevention;
(c)positive impact on our Health;
(d)supports sustainable consumption and production in diverse multi disciplinary areas;
(e)creates numerous innovative opportunities in diverse industry sectors;
(f)will investigate IP – potential for several patents
The workplan of t0w will be detailed and developed initially according focus on each of the three members’ industry:automotive, petrol and electronics and three living scenarios, island, city and mountain village. This will have to cover the full concept and process: production, processing and reciclying.
t0w develop an specific metrica, indicators and methods, to the assessment of the waste processing efficiency calculating waste by: Material weight; Energy to manufacture; Logistics; Residues and Unsuitable for incineration (instable calorific value)
Work Packages
WP1: Preliminary studies. Analysis of existing markets, problems, impacts, systems
WP2: Conceptual models on areas for assessment (Metrica) improvement & implications
WP3: Develop concepts and prototypes in specific areas, sectors and process in test-labs
WP4: Investigate suitability of new innovative materials, equipment and methods.
WP5: Assessment in pilot net representing diverse scenarios of real cases
WP6: Dissemination/Awareness, Transfer of knowledge and Policies recommendations and Sustainability
WP7: Project Management and coordination
IMPACT
Results should translate the vision of a sustainable development into elements of a sustainable entrepreneurship, focusing at enhancing business opportunities according to a "towards zero waste" approach.
The assessment of the life cycle benefits and costs for achieving the main EU environmental resource-related targets (in the context of the industrial networks assessed) will be a measure of the outcomes of this action.
Looking at the whole process chain of the involved industrial networks, results should contribute to achieve at least two of the following goals:
(1) a decrease of at least 30% of greenhouse gases emissions,
(2) at least 70% of overall re-use and recycling of waste,
(3) a reduction of at least 75% of fresh water utilisation.
Internationally Scientific and Technological relevance due ecological concerns regarding:
1.Climate Change, detrimental effect emissions have on the environment;
2.Health concerns
3.Contaminated food;
4.Depletion of our natural resources;
5.Harmful effect on our wildlife;
6.Pollution to our water resources;
We will address all these concerns by:
a)reducing waste to landfill i.e. *emissions, residues to natural resources including soil and water;
b)reuse will exceed expectations …
c)contaminated soil leading to contaminated food linked to
d)health concerns
Background
Question – what volume of emissions are produced by 1 ton of waste packaging to landfill?
These international problems cannot be contained within a country but spread to all continents giving cause for immediate remedial action.
In the interest of our Health, the quality of our food, sustainability in diverse areas,
We will develop and integrate not only products and services, but also proposal for strategic Policy resulting in world wide humanitarian benefits both tangibles and intangibles. This is possible through transparency and cooperation of …………….
Our international collaborative partners will be able to further develop and introduce clean technologies developed without the project thereby addressing all previous problems.
Through publicity and media coverage, branding and supply conformity will be evident.
CONSORTIM
This action should foresee a substantial participation of industrial partners, with a relevant presence of SMEs. Additionally, this project should establish links with other projects addressing innovative product chains with a Life Cycle Approach (i.e. bio-refineries).
Dissemination
Based on a several and diverse activities of information and communication, such us: a web-portal of the project, electronic newsletter, presentation of S&T papers in conference, seminaries, establishment of a European S&T annual conference, etc.
Policy relevant topic:
Orchestrate and coordinate in parallel with the main European policies in the related areas
t0w will create once all Partners are identified and profiled a customised policy recommendations for their specific industries and habitats.
t0w provides evidences and directions on how to implement the main EU policy initiatives in this area (Sustainable Consumption and Production, ETAP, Eco-label, EMAS, Waste Framework Directive, ELV Directive) in a coherent, integrated, and sustainability oriented way, inter alia by identifying and assessing policy measures that could be taken at EU, national or regional levels to favour the development and the uptake of industrial networking and zero-waste entrepreneurship and achieve waste prevention.
The management of intellectual property to be agreed with partners for a suitable and consensual exit strategy.
No ethical concerns. However, tOw will introduce for the first time new ethical standards in this area, for which is not covered by Ethics for inclusion such as ……
Which is imperative ….. in our Best Practice, CSR……
